Peter had been trying to get his courage up for this particular evening for at least two weeks, longer than that if he's honest with himself. He's decided it required a real night out away from the house so the rooftop, where he and Charlie usually spent time, was out. The cafe down the street was out as well. It was getting a little cold for Central Park, which had been his first thought. He'd briefly considered the top of the Empire State Building, but he took her to the tops of buildings all the time. He wanted something different and memorable. Finally, he sent her a text with an address, told her to dress in something comfortable but nice. He'd meet her there.
When she showed up he was there at the front door with a pair of jeans on, a white button down and a dark jacket. He was wearing his converse, bouncing on his toes as he waited for her. The address he'd sent her to happened to be this.

She dressed comfortably enough. A pair of jeans that she'd purchased with Pepper which meant they fit her almost perfectly. A pair of casual shoes she probably only just took out of the box within the past day or so and an off-white slightly off the shoulder top. Her hair was down which was rare, but he'd said comfortable and Charlie could only put up with her hair tied back for so long before even she started messing with it.
When she got to the front door and saw Peter, she stopped and smiled softly. "You look nice."
Really, he did. She wasn't quite used to this. She could get used to it, though.

He looked her over a moment then back at the building they're about to go into. "Are you ready to--" he nodded back at the building they were standing in front of. "I think it'll be fun."
no subject
"Yeah. I'm good. What are we doing?" She had a camera with her, a small one that tucked into her back pocket, and felt that she'd want pictures of tonight, whatever they were doing.

"A tour of New York through a blind person's eyes. Or their nose, ears and fingers. After that we're having dinner at this great diner down the street. If that's all okay with you. We can always do something else if you'd rather. I mean nothing is set in stone. I just wanted to do something fun and different, you know?"
Of course he has bought the tickets, but if she wanted to do something different, he'd be game for it.

"That sounds fantastic," she says, nodding her approval. "Sounds like an adventure, actually." She holds his hand out to him, another thing that's just normal for them that gets a ton of raised eyebrows from everyone else at the house. "Lead the way."
no subject
"I think it will be." He squeezed her hand and opened the door for her. He gave the casier his tickets and they were led to a small waiting room with a few other people gathered in it. "You're not afraid of the dark, right? I mean I'll be there the whole time and I won't let go of your hand."
no subject
"Oh, good. That means I can hold on and not let go, right? It's a better idea than getting separated."

He was working his courage up. It was a scary thing, asking someone like her to be his girlfriend. He knew Charlie had a tendency to run and could be scared away. He desperately didn't want to scare her away tonight.
no subject
It's a welcome change and she wasn't letting go of it soon.
"Peter?" Her curiosity had gotten the best of her after a few minutes of silence. "Are you okay?"
no subject
no subject
"This is a different kind of crazy, though." See how well she knows you, Peter?
no subject
Yeeeeah, she knows him pretty well. "Well...you know, it's just kind of--all the red bull and school and I just...you like me, right? I mean...you like spending time with me."
no subject
She listens, paying attention to his tone of voice and his words. He's nervous, That much is obvious. It takes her a minute to realize what he's asking and she can't help the smile that crosses her features.
"Yeah. Yeah, I do. A lot." Please continue, Peter. She has a hunch where this was going. And speaking of going, the tour group's tour guide has appeared and is speaking to everyone but Charlie only has eyes and ears for Peter, giving him her full attention.
no subject
He's very nervous. He could be messing things up so badly right and that's the last thing he wants. He'd rather keep things exactly the way they are than ruin them.
"Okay. That's good. I mean...that's great. Yeah." He's not really listening to the guide but when they start to move forward, into the darkness, Peter holds her hand a little tighter, walking close enough that her shoulder brushes his. When he speaks again, his voice is a whisper. "I mean I like spending time with you too. You're probably my favorite person to spend time with."
no subject
Charlie senses how nervous he is and leans against him just slightly, meaning it as a reassuring gesture. That and she's walking into somewhere dark so knowing he's there is a comfort to her as well.
"Yeah?" He can't see it, but there's a smile on her face and in her tone when she speaks. "You're definitely my favorite person to spend time with." Her thumb runs over his just a bit before she lets go of his hand and her arm slides around his waist. "Now, be honest, Peter. Why are you so nervous? I didn't do anything, did I?"
That's a joke. Mostly...about 70 percent a joke.
no subject
The way she leans in helped calm his nerves a little. He winds his arm around her waist, pulling her close. He bows his head to listen to her, whispering because in the dark, it seems like he should whisper, despite the fact that the guide is talking at a normal level. There are the sounds of traffic and the City around them as well as the smells of things.
"You did everything. That's sort of what this is about." He realizes fairly quickly he needs to back that up with something positive because otherwise she's going ot think she's done something bad. "It was all good. I mean, all the things you did. It kinda...I mean...because of everything and the way we are and how we're...I'd really like it if--d-do you want to be my girlfriend? I mean--or something l-like my girlfriend?"
finally tagging.
And then she smiled at his question. It was a surprising question, honestly. She was sure she was hearing things so her answer was a bit hesitant, despite her efforts for it to not be.
"I'd like that, Peter. I'd like that a lot."

He was rambling but that was just because he was breathing. Also, happy and immensely relieved. He'd imagined this going many different ways the past few days.

"You realize that Barton will probably be even more obnoxious than usual, right?" Meaning he will find ways to worm in between them at any opportunity and not just on movie nights in the building.
no subject
"Are you kidding? I expect several 'I told you so's a day."
Peter expected Barton to make their lives difficult. It was what he was there for. Peter was convinced it was his purpose in the building.
no subject
"Actually, I take that back. Barton's probably the type to try to sneak up on you and say it. Probably text it to you dozens of times."
no subject
Peter was well aware of the ribbing he was going to take from Barton in regards to this. He'd decided it was worth it.
no subject
It will be amusing. "And Pepper's going to have fun with it, too."
no subject
He groaned slightly. "Yeah, she's going to have a lot of fun with it. She'll be nicer than Barton though. I think she actually likes me. Barton only likes me when he's annoying me. I think I'll probably go buy a case of red bull and then go ask if he'll help me out with some training."
Barton couldn't, in good conscience, tell Peter no to a training request and hopped up on three or four red bulls, Peter would drive Barton insane simply by existing.
no subject
"It all sounds worth it, honestly. All the teasing and looks we're going to get?" She's beyond okay with all of it. She's looking forward to some of it, honestly.
"And...this'll probably get Molly from school to leave you alone." Which Charlie is looking forward to in a huge way.
no subject
"Hey," his voice was a little lower, serious. "If I didn't think it was worth it, I wouldn't be asking."
That got a grin out of him though. "Definitely a plus."
